Healthy teeth are our business card. They not only perform necessary functions, such as biting and chewing food but also add attractiveness and charm to our image. If you are missing teeth or your dentist recommends the extraction of several teeth, you might have a replacement choice to make. One such option is dentures. Fortunately, modern prosthetics have aesthetic solutions in their arsenal.

Dentures are a non-invasive solution to missing teeth that are also affordable without requiring a lot of intervention. This form of tooth replacement comes with many benefits, such as versatility. Great Lakes Dental Excellence provides its patients with a wide selection of dentures designed to fit their unique needs and dental goals:

Full Dentures

A traditional full denture resembles a horseshoe and is designed to rest entirely on your gums. The restoration is placed after all teeth have been removed and the alveolar ridge and gums have healed completely. Impressions in your mouth can be taken approximately six to eight weeks after the extraction. A full denture can replace your teeth in either the upper or lower dental arch or both. The entire denture recreates your mouth with prosthetic teeth secured on a gum-colored base.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are designed to replace few of your missing teeth as opposed to the entire dental arch, allowing you to keep healthy natural teeth intact. Partial dentures can be acrylic with wire clasps or skeletal with a cast metal structure. Sometimes it is necessary to make special fastening elements on the patient’s own teeth, such as root posts with latches or crowns with larches or bolts.

Implant Dentures

Implant dentures imitate natural teeth and restore the functions of natural dentition. They look like traditional dentures but are permanently fixed in your mouth on implant posts, usually four screws, so you will never need an adhesive. With implant dentures, you can sleep without the risk of choking. Because of how stable implant dentures sit in your mouth, you can enjoy all types of food without risking them falling out. They also do not press on your gums, which eliminates the discomfort that some of the traditional dentures may present, especially if they do not have a proper fit. Because implant dentures are placed on metal posts, the restoration prevents bone loss.

Full Dentures at Great Lakes Dental Excellence

Modern dentures are created with the use of more and more advanced technologies. Until recently, the choice of methods for making prostheses was very limited, as were the types of materials used to prepare them. Today, the market of modern prosthetics is entering technologies that allow for even better fitting of the restoration and materials that increase the comfort of wearing it. Full dentures come in various types, and most often they are made from either acrylic or plastic material that matches the color of your gums. Full dentures are removable and require an adhesive to keep them in place.
