Dr. Van de Vyver loves the transformation he sees when a patient is just happy to show their beautiful smile. He says that he is blessed with the privilege to care for others, and it’s so fulfilling when our team’s talents are used to bring out the joy in others. For him, dentistry is about so much more than teeth—the goal is to help people live without pain while enjoying complete confidence.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Van de Vyver decided he wanted to go into dentistry when he was in high school and had his wisdom teeth removed. He had never been in any surgery where he had to be put to sleep, so he was anxious about the procedure. The oral surgeon’s friendly chairside manner got him through the process comfortably, and this was something he wanted to be able to do for others.
Also, Dr. Van de Vyver has always liked creating and building things with his hands, and there are so many tools, instruments, and technologies involved in modern dentistry that the profession lends itself to his God given talents.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Van de Vyver completed his undergraduate education and earned his dental doctorate from the University of Michigan. He has been in private practice since 2008, has studied at the prestigious Dawson Academy, and is an Invisalign Gold Provider as well as an AGD PACE National Continuing Education Provider. He is also an active member of the:
-
American Dental Association
-
Michigan Dental Association
-
Academy of General Dentistry
-
American Academy of Clear Aligners
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Van de Vyver and his wife, Sharla, have been married since 2011, and they are the proud parents of five children (Maximilian, Xavier, Elizabeth, Alexander, and Jaxson). In his free time, Dr. Van de Vyver enjoys creating things with his hands, whether this involves using his 3D printers at home to make toys and fidgets for the kids or working on computers. He is also really into board games and puzzles, even competing in local library puzzle competitions. Fun fact: Dr. Van de Vyver played trumpet in high school and could have gone to university on a music scholarship, but he felt science and engineering was his true life path.
