Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves a patient taking prescribed medication, usually in the form of a small pill, before their scheduled treatment. By the time they’re seated in the chair, its effects will have kicked in. Patients are still awake and responsive to verbal commands and physical stimuli, but they’ll feel relaxed and groggy, and they’re unlikely to remember anything about their appointment. It’s suggested that patients have a ride to and from their appointment if they’re planning to receive oral conscious sedation.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Also often referred to by its nickname, “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is one of the gentlest sedation solutions available. It comes in the form of a breathable gas that’s administered with oxygen through a soft nasal mask. While under its effects, patients report feelings of warmth, relaxation, and total euphoria, in addition to being compliant with treatment. Its effects are fleeting, too – patients can resume their usual daily routine following nitrous oxide sedation. It’s also perfectly safe for patients of all ages, and arguably, some dental procedures simply wouldn’t be possible without its assistance!
